Stephan's quintet in Pegasus


The famous among astronomers Stephan's quintet in the constellation Pegasus, is another example of a galactic merger. This group has been a case study by the Hubble and some earth-based radio telescopes, as we are trying to identify all the collision forces at play. Four of the five galaxies are physically associated, and dubbed Hickson compact group 92. The fifth galaxy (NGC 7320) depicted in blue, is a foreground projection, estimated at a distance of 39ml ly., vs. the 210-340 ml. ly. of the background galaxies.

This was imaged remotely in Hocking Hills during July and August, 2016.
